Thanks for marking this as the answer. Disable the antivirus software and try again. all the email messages. It started when I tried to synchronise my ipad contacts with Outlook - which got too complicated and didn't work, so I am certain that it resulted from altering some settings as it used to work perfectly before hand. PS I originally had 2010 set for IMAP and I did receive my gmail BUT the IMAP server logs off so frequently it became untenable and I was advised to switch over to POP3. All of my incoming / outgoing server settings are exactly as they were in 2007. Procedure to set protection level in Outlook 2010: Click on Junk E-mail folder >> Junk; Select Junk E-mail Options >> No automatic filtering >> OK; An incoming Mail text box should not be set to pop3.live.com. Outlook 2007 I had no issues for 3 years of using it.
