Girls learn basic RG body skills: turns, balances, leaps and foundational pre-acrobatic elements. Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, and endurance.The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups.

Gymnasts in Levels 5-6 practice using all 5 RG apparatus: Rope, Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. LEVELS 5-6:  min 3 days per week – 2 x 3hr RG classes per week, plus Advanced Flexibility class (1hr 30min) and Ballet class (1h). Ballet training is required 2x per week for these levels. One set with a ribbon, and the other set with a ball. The body skills and apparatus handling for Level 4 routines should be more complex than that in the Level 3 routines. The girls will learn, perform, and compete a “floor” routine, as well as 2 apparatus routines while developing essential Rhythmic Gymnastics apparatus handling technique and body skills. Each individual competes in 4 apparatus events choreographed specifically for them. A gymnast can only successfully approach levels 7-8 with a solid technical foundation. Floor: Must be able to do 2 combinations of 5 skills across the floor. The judge penalizes errors with the body and/or equipment technique, an indication that the gymnast has not yet mastered the basic technique of the body and/or apparatus.

However, for some gymnasts it may be necessary to spend 1.5 or 2 years in the same level, in order to achieve the necessary skills to progress. Balance Plank: Must be able to do 3 flips and 4 skills across the plank. Gymnasts will continue learning new skills with Rope, Hoop and Ball.
