El Eternauta ("The Eternaut") is the most famous Argentinian Comic, (alongside Mafalda, of course.And maybe Cybersix, assuming people remember it was an Argentinian comic book). The Eternaut (Spanish: El Eternauta) is a science fiction comic created by Argentine comic strip writer Héctor Germán Oesterheld with artwork by Francisco Solano López.It was first published in Hora Cero Semanal from 1957 to 1959.. Oesterheld returned to El Eternauta with a remake and a sequel, published in 1969 and 1975, respectively. His successor banned the left-wing political ideology named for Perón, Peronism, though a Peronist would be elected in 1963 only to be overthrown by—what else?—a coup.
The story is set about a decade into the future where a deadly snowfall suddenly strikes. These juntas were in direct conflict with the left-wing ideals that Oesterheld struggled—physically, violently struggled—to uphold, and it was these ideals that would eventually lead to his disappearance. Because of Oesterheld’s history, The Eternaut can only be read politically; it is completely stripped of its patina of adventure and sci-fi. It was not aproved by the surviving author at the time. An improvised army mostly made of unprepared civilians fights against an invasion armada of, enemy we see turns out to be naught but a fear- or mind-controlled slave to the, the first Hand and how they are actually being controlled by a fear gland. Also, there is a positive example of this trope in part 2 for the "Them-Friend" that transported Salvo, his family and the author to the year 2100 to combat the other Them in their critical moment on After the End Earth.
The source of Oesterheld’s conflict with the Argentine government is obvious. the "Safe zones" announced by radio are just a scam of the invaders, to capture the last remaining survivors. The protagonist - who along with his family and a few friends was sheltered safely at home - must then try to survive in the new desolate and hostile environment: finding rations to live, avoiding all contact with this fluorescent snow that kills everything it comes in contact with, and, most importantly, battling fear, desperation and the potential threat of fellow human survivors.
